Who Visits the Patient?

Montgomery Hospice professionals make housecalls wherever patients live. These professionals include doctors, nurses, nursing aides and counselors. Trained volunteers also may visit.

When a patient first enters hospice, a nurse visits the patient and family to learn their needs. Hospice team members make regular follow-up visits based on the care plan that the patient, family and hospice team establish.

Regular visits by a nurse are the core of hospice care. Other professionals get involved depending on the patient and family's needs and preferences. Visit schedules adjust to fit changing needs and circumstances.

Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance do not pay for a hospice nurse to be in a patient's home all the time. We can put you in touch with other organizations that may be able to provide you with additional nursing support.

If a patient has severe symptoms that cannot be managed at home, a short stay at Casey House can help resolve the crisis.
